Description / IceCap K1 Nano Protein Skimmer

Modern Skimmer Design & Functionality

The impressively compact footprint of the IceCap K1-Nano Protein Skimmer is the ideal candidate for small aquariums up to 30 gallons. The included magnet mount allows for easy placement on surfaces up to a half-inch thick. Enjoy the quiet operation and adjustment provided by the submerged pipeless output valve. It also disassembles completely for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Compact & Built to Last

Master crafted from robust PVC and high-quality acrylic. All components are marine safe and refined in every aspect to provide the latest enhancements in foam fractionation and the highest in quality.

An impressively compact footprint makes it the ideal candidate for tight compartment applications. Every aspect of the skimmer disassembles completely for easy service.

Quiet Performance & Control

At the Core of the IceCap K1, you will find the DCair 200 skimmer pump built to provide efficient performance.

The pipeless output offers fine-tuning and trouble free underwater outflow plus quiet operation. Our pipeless design not only saves on space but also allows the outgoing water to exit on the side of the skimmer and below the water surface providing splash-free circulation in the sump.

Bioload Handling

The bioload of an aquarium refers to its ability to process waste in proportion to tank volume. Protein skimmers work best when properly matched with the bioload of the system.

A workhorse the likes of which I wasn’t expecting!
Review by Alex
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a nano protein skimmer, but I had to give it a try. Weekly water changes alone were not cutting it anymore. The skimmer is packaged beautifully, with each component wrapped in plastic. The orange and white color scheme is real slick. The K1 was very easy to assemble and disassemble, but I’ll get to that in a bit. I have a small 16 gallon BioCube with rear chambers too small for the K1, so I am forced to run it in the display. I love that the magnetic mount pushes the skimmer away from the glass so it will fit with a rimmed tank. The skimmer took about two weeks to break in. After adjusting the gate valve and playing with the height in the aquarium I found the sweet spot and this skimmer really went to work. The filth that was being pulled out was amazing and disgustingly satisfying. Being in the display, I battled a few issues that were unique to my application. First being so close to the light I had a thin layer of algae buildup along the entire side of the skimmer facing the light, every few weeks I would disassemble the skimmer and clean it. Disassembly was easy, simply consisting of a few thumb screws. The second issue I had that was unique to my application was my battle with my hordes of dwarf cerith snails. Like zombies, they find their way into the most unexpected places, including the intake of the pump. They would make their way up through the pump into the inner chamber of the skimmer. But disassembly is quick and painless. Easy fix. The skimmer ran flawlessly for 3 months until the zombie snails broke the impeller in the pump. Now again, the average person using the skimmer would not have it in the display so this would not be an issue. Now here is an advantage to using IceCap/CoralVue products, spare parts are easily accessible. I got on the website, ordered a new pump, and boom, back in business. I have nothing negative to say about this protein skimmer. It is a workhorse the likes of which I wasn’t expecting. If I ever have the chance to upgrade to a larger aquarium with sump, based on my experience with the K1 Nano, I would strongly consider an IceCap protein skimmer.
